“Design is not just how it look and feels, it’s also how it works.”

(Steve Jobs)

When building a website there are some fundamental key features that need to be adhered to.

  • Keep it simple.

The internet is all about convenience. Surfers do not want to have to think when looking for what they want. The back button is one of the most commonly used buttons on the internet so if the user does not find it easy to get what they want from your site they will just hit back and go somewhere else.

  • Make your purpose clear.

There is nothing worse than visiting a website and getting the idea that there is no direction, no purpose. Figure out what your visitors are looking for. Is it some information or to be entertained? Sometimes it may be as simple as looking for some contact details so that they can ask you to do a quote.

  • Make sure your website is mobile friendly and loads quickly.

With over 50% of all searches performed on the internet today, it is more important than ever that your website is Mobile Compatible and does not take too long to load. If you are hoping to get a low bounce rate on your site it you will need to take into consideration these two key factors.

Not only will it deter  potential customers if your website takes too long to load, but it will also cost you heavily with rankings on Google and other search engines.

To summarise, when building a website keep in mind what the visitors want. If you can cater to their needs your site will be more successful than you could have imagined.
