If you have any idea what the title of this blog even means then you are already on the right track in improving the performance of your online marketing campaign.

A lot of business owners have a very limited understanding of the different types of internet advertising available to them. No doubt when approaching internet marketing agencies you will be confronted with one if not both of these terms.

But what’s the real difference?

Pay Per Click is an advertising option that is always available. It is flexible and can offer instant results. Due to the fact that you are actually paying Google AdWords, or Facebook Advertising or one of a range of other internet mediums, you can get your business up the top in a relatively short period of time, (usually about 1 or 2 days depending on the amount of time it takes to set up the campaign).

Another advantage gained by running a PPC campaign is the flexibility. You can pause and reactivate your campaign virtually on demand. You can also target specific regions and schedule your ad to be eligible to come up on certain days and times to maximise your return on your investment.

The only down side with PPC campaigns is that it can be quite expensive. As long as the campaign is set up properly, you should expect to see a positive return, however you will need to be prepared to bid as high as your competitors for those popular keywords your customers will be typing in.

Search Engine Optimisation is somewhat of a long terms strategy. You can not expect to start getting calls the day after you sign up on an SEO campaign. It takes weeks and sometimes months to see results. you can however track the performance of your campaign by looking you keyword rankings on search engines like Google.

If your SEO work or agency is doing a good job you should be able to see steady improvements in your rankings on a month to month basis.

One down side to SEO is that Google and other search engines often perform algorithm updates and your SEO work is liable to no longer yield the results it once did. This is why an ongoing seo package has proven to work for companies in the past. SEO agencies will be keeping up to date with Google’s updates and will make the necessary changes to your campaign to ensure that your rankings continue to improve or retain desirable rankings.
