About the Open Graph Preview

The Open Graph Preview tool shows how a URL will look when it is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Slack, iMessage, WhatsApp and other platforms that build link previews from Open Graph meta tags. It is the fastest way to check that your titles, descriptions and images render exactly how you want them to.

What it does

Enter a URL and the tool fetches the page, reads its og:title, og:description, og:image, og:type and Twitter Card tags, and renders realistic mockups for each major platform. Errors and warnings are flagged so you can fix missing tags before a campaign goes live.

Why it matters

Social platforms cache Open Graph data aggressively. If you launch a post and the preview looks wrong, thousands of users may see the broken version before the fix propagates. Previewing first is much cheaper than re-scraping and reposting later.

How to use it

  1. Paste the URL of the page you want to preview.
  2. Wait for the tool to fetch and parse the Open Graph tags.
  3. Compare the mockups against how you want the link to appear.
  4. Fix any missing or truncated tags in your head HTML.
  5. Re-scrape the URL in Facebook Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn Post Inspector to bust their caches.

Best-practice tips

  • Use a 1200x630 og:image; anything smaller may render blurry or fall back to a small card.
  • Keep og:title under 60 characters and og:description under 155 characters.
  • Set og:type to article for blog posts and website for standard pages.
  • Include an absolute HTTPS URL for og:url and og:image, never a relative path.
  • Add a twitter:card value of summary_large_image for the biggest hero preview on X.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Facebook preview look wrong?

Facebook caches Open Graph data. Use the Sharing Debugger to force a re-scrape after you update your tags.

Do I need Twitter Card tags if I have Open Graph?

X (Twitter) reads Open Graph as a fallback, but a dedicated twitter:card tag gives you more control over the layout.

What image size should I use?

1200x630 pixels is the safe default for Facebook, LinkedIn and X. For Pinterest, use a taller 1000x1500 image.
