About the AI Friendliness Checker
AI search engines like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini increasingly answer questions directly instead of sending users to a list of links. The AI Friendliness Checker measures how well your website can be discovered, understood and cited by these systems, so you show up when your customers ask an AI model for a recommendation.
What it does
The tool crawls a URL and scores four areas that matter for AI visibility: discovery files (robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt), content structure (headings, sections, semantic HTML), structured data (JSON-LD schema markup) and technical accessibility (render-blocking, crawl access for AI user agents).
Why it matters
Ranking in traditional Google search is no longer enough. LLM-powered assistants pull from clearly structured, well-marked-up pages. Sites that are easy for AI to parse are far more likely to be referenced in generative answers, and to keep driving traffic as more searches move away from the classic ten blue links.
How to use it
- Paste the full URL of the page you want to audit.
- Wait a few seconds for the checker to fetch and analyse the page.
- Review the overall score and drill into each category to see which checks passed or failed.
- Fix the highest-impact issues first, such as missing schema, blocked crawlers, or thin heading structure.
- Re-run the tool to confirm your fixes are live and your score has improved.
Best-practice tips
- Publish an llms.txt file at the root of your domain summarising your site.
- Use JSON-LD schema for Organization, Article, Product, FAQ and BreadcrumbList.
- Keep one clear H1 per page and use descriptive H2s that mirror how people ask questions.
- Do not block GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot in robots.txt unless you have a specific reason.
- Answer common questions directly in the first 100 words of each page.

It maximises your chances. LLMs are more likely to cite sites that are technically accessible, well-structured and rich in schema. There is no guaranteed slot, but the score identifies the fixes that most influence AI visibility.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is optional but increasingly recommended. llms.txt gives AI crawlers a concise summary of your most important pages and helps them cite you accurately.
Is my data stored?
No. The checker runs in your browser and only fetches the public HTML of the URL you enter. Nothing is saved on our servers.
